“We’re Not Going Anywhere” Mel’s Charities may be socially distant, but they are still connected to our community,

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the brakes on nearly every public event this summer. But that has not deterred Mel’s Charities from their mission to provide Great Times for Great Causes.

Executive Director Tom “Mel” Stanton explains, “After careful consideration our board decided to postpone our signature Pig Roast scheduled for September 13. This would have been our 22nd year and our biggest ever. We could have pulled it off with major structural changes, but we’ve never been about social distancing. The same is true for the Fun Run/Walk scheduled for September 12 and BC’s 8-Pin Tap on August 21-22.“

While these three signature events have been cancelled, the organization is still committed to providing some much-needed Great Times for Great Causes with socially distanced fun.

  • August 9: a one-of-a-kind Piglet Scramble golf outing will be held at Missing Links in Mequon. To register your foursome visit www.melscharities.org
  • August 16: Burgers, Beats and Brews Bash in Wayne’s Drive-in parking lot from 1pm-5pm. Live music from the Robert James Austin Band, followed by Tangled Lines.

“Although the above events will help in these unprecedented times, the board and I realized our 20+ year record of fundraising, and more importantly, our ability to impact thousands of lives in Ozaukee County, was in jeopardy. The beauty of our board is their ability to quickly find viable alternatives. A few minutes after the shock of voting to cancel Mel’s Pig Roast, they began planning ways to continue Great Times for Great Causes in 2020. Stay tuned. Mel’s Charities will soon be announcing how this is going to happen. We Are Just Getting Started!”

Mel’s Charities’ mission is to provide “Great Times for Great Causes,” supporting non-profit organizations in Ozaukee County, with a strong emphasis on special needs, memorial scholarships, and human service organizations. Since 1999 Mel’s Charities has donated over $1,200,000. Mel’s Charities is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
