Mel’s Village occupies about 35 acres of the Northern Gateway development in Saukville. When completed, Mel’s Village will provide entertainment, recreation, employment, and housing opportunities for individuals with disabilities, as well as for the whole community:
Our Mission: Create a vibrant, safe, and stimulating community where individuals of all abilities can live, work and play.
Our Vision: Become a regional hub that IDD individuals and their families can call home, as we provide entertainment, recreation, lodging, and dining facilities to attract the entire community.
Why it matters: No other development in Wisconsin currently offers the comprehensive range of economic and societal benefits found at Northern Gateway and its Mel’s Village component. This first-of-its-kind multi-use project will serve as a model to build similar developments in the state and nation.
What is the timeline: Gateway Sports Academy is scheduled to open in spring 2025. Apartments, retail, and office spaces, as well as the plaza, are scheduled to be ready mid-2027.

Real estate development is always complex. We are still diligently working on pre-development issues such as financing terms, building plans, partner contracts, and various investment options. As a result of this pre-construction work, none of the parties involved are taking rental applications at this time.
We aim to finalize building plans and start construction for many of the components of Mel’s Village in the summer of 2026. As plans develop, we will announce the timing and details of the application process for apartment residents.
