Event Schedule Changes

Mel’s Charities’ 22nd annual pig roast postponed

CEDARBURG — Mel’s Charities’ 22nd annual pig roast won’t be happening until this fall.

“After careful consideration, our board decided to postpone our signature Pig Roast scheduled for Sept. 13,” said Executive Director Tom “Mel” Stanton. “This would have been our 22nd year and our biggest ever. We could have pulled it off with major structural changes, but we’ve never been about social distancing. The same is true for the Fun Run/Walk scheduled for Sept. 12 and BC’s 8-Pin Tap on Aug. 21-22.”

While these three signature events have been canceled, the organization is still committed to providing some much-needed great times for great causes with socially distanced fun. On Aug. 9, the Piglet Scramble golf outing will be held at Missing Links in Mequon. To register a group of four, visit www.melscharities.org. On Aug. 16, Wayne’s Drive-In is partnering with Mel’s Charities to host Burgers, Beats and Brews Bash in their parking lot from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be live music from the Robert James Austin Band followed by Tangled Lines. “Although the above events will help in these unprecedented times, the board and I realized our 20+ year record of fundraising, and more importantly, our ability to impact thousands of lives in Ozaukee County, was in jeopardy. The beauty of our board is their ability to quickly find viable alternatives,” Stanton said. “A few minutes after the shock of voting to cancel Mel’s Pig Roast, they began planning ways to continue Great Times for Great Causes in 2020. Stay tuned. Mel’s Charities will soon be announcing how this is going to happen.”
