What We Raise Here Stays Here…and We’re Just Getting Started!

OUR STORY

Mel’s Charities’ mission is to provide “Great Times for Great Causes,” supporting non-profit organizations in Ozaukee County, with a strong emphasis on special needs, memorial scholarships and human service organizations.

Our  goal has always been to help others while having fun. In 2019 Mel’s Charities provided grants totaling over $180,000 to Ozaukee County recipients. What began as a $350 gift in 1999 has now grown to over $1.1 million in total grants.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds from all events are donated back to the community.

#neverforgetThe CCSF Board enjoyed some special surprises when hand-delivering awards to the 2020 winners on May 20. Here’s one:

Board member Michelle McLane Noerenberg delivered the award for Mel’s Charities in Honor of Stuart Mitkey to Jacob Orthober. Michelle was close friends with Stuart’s parents, and was nine months pregnant with her own son in 2012 when she learned of Stuart’s sudden passing. In her words:

“After a good cry, it dawned on me that I was about to meet my son and our friends Chris and Rich had just lost theirs. I didn’t get to attend Stu’s service on account of still being in the hospital after having my son the day before. In short, not sure I really properly said goodbye to Stu until today when I shared Stu’s story with the young man receiving the scholarship from Mel’s in honor of Stu.

“I have no doubt that Jacob will do good things to honor Stu’s memory as he heads to St Thomas in the fall.”

Look for more stories, and a slideshow featuring so many smiling recipients, in the coming days!
